Senators Announce the 2007 Musical Show

The summer of 2007 will see The Senators explore the drama and emotion of something as simple as a set of playing cards. “Shuffle Up and Deal” is a rhythmic, high octane production that is as addictive as the game it describes. From the opening of the program the focus is in on the swirling, roller coaster ride that is the high stakes of the contemporary card game. Shredded nerves and drained emotions are part and parcel of a card game, where everyone who plays, sees more swings of fortune than they should have to deal with. It's a brutal game and will make a great drum corps show.

Program coordinator Craig Sherratt adds “Whilst researching the show I came across a quote that read “Nobody is always a winner, and anybody who says they are, is either a liar or doesn't play cards.” This fits perfectly to what we were looking for to take the corps forward in 2007, sometimes the most obvious things are not the ones that jump out to us. The concept of the show will give us the opportunity to explore different feelings and emotions both musically and visually, the four suits give us a strong running theme and the turn of a card tension that comes along with that”.

Each piece will represent a suit and therefore will have a distinctive feel to it. Brass Caption Head Craig Walker commented “The horn line are ready for the challenge ahead and the brass book is both taxing as well as enjoyable for us. Each piece has its own unique feel to it which gives us great scope to work with”

The Musical program will once again be headed by John McNamara who added “This year’s entire musical production will be composed by Andrew Markworth from the USA. Andrew is an extremely talented arranger and his work with both Centerville High School and Rhythm X are very impressive, “Shuffle Up and Deal” has given us a great selection of music to use and I for one am excited about putting this on the field”

“At our November camp, it was a pleasure to watch the design team really get their teeth into this concept", commented Senators Director Joe Fitzpatrick. "I feel very comfortable with the direction the Corps is going in with this show and excited by the scope we have to develop the production.

The Senators will perform in both the UK and Europe in 2007 as we compete in both the DCUK and DCE circuits, we wish all Corps well for this season and we hope you enjoy our 2007 production.
